Doyin Okupe (born March 22, 1952), formerly Adedoyin Ajibike Okupe, is a prominent Nigerian politician and physician. He was currently named the Vice President candidate to Peter Obi, a presidential aspirant under Labour Party.
Dr. Okupe has served in many political roles and activities. He has served as the National Publicity Secretary of the National Republic Convention (NRC).
He is also the founder of Royal Cross Medical Center.
Although he is well known as a member of the People’s Democratic Party, he has joined other parties like NPN, NRC, UNCP, and Accord Party.
During Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure, he served as the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity. He was also the senior assistant on Public Affairs to Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

Early Life
Doyin Okupe was born Adedoyin Ajibike Okupe on March 22, 1952, in Iperu, a town near the Ibu River in Ogun State, Southwestern Nigeria.
Chief Matthew Adekoya Okupe, his father, is a titled man and notable in the banking sector. He worked as a banker with Agbonmagbe, now Wema Bank.
Doyin has six siblings; four brothers and two sisters. With his siblings, he attended primary and secondary schools in Nigeria.
Education
Okupe studied at St. Jude’s School in Ebute Metta, Lagos. He then attended Igbobi College, Yaba, Lagos, and then the University of Ibadan in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Career
Although he is widely known as a politician, Okupe is a medical doctor. With his expertise in health, he was a publisher of Life Mirror.
Medical
Okupe has worked in both private and government hospitals in Nigeria. Among others, he worked at St. Nicholas Hospital Lagos.
After gathering experience for many years, he established Royal Cross Medical Centre in Obalende, Lagos.
His colleagues Seyi Roberts and Ladi Okuboyejo are also founding members of the Royal Cross Hospital. He worked as the Managing Director of the Medical Centre.
Political
Dr. Okupe has been active in party politics since the Second Nigerian Republic. He was a House of Reps candidate of the National Party of Nigeria in 1983.
During the Third Nigerian Republic, he was the National Publicity Secretary of the National Republican Convention.
He was also a representative of NRC responsible for observing the collation of the 1993 Nigerian presidential election results at the headquarters of NEC.
On October 3, 1996, the military government of Sani Abacha detained Doyin. In March 1998, he was among the disqualified politicians during the aborted transition program of Abacha.
During former President Olusegun’s tenure, he served as the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity.
In 2002, he won the PDP governorship aspirant primaries in Ogun State. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan appointed him Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs in 2012.
Okupe was a publicist for many Nigerian presidential aspirants of the People’s Democratic Party. In 2017, he left the People’s Democratic Party for Accord Party.
After a year, the Accord party expelled him for agreeing to be the Chairman of the Campaign Media Council of Bukola Saraki for the 2019 presidential primaries of the PDP.
Later, he returned to the People’s Democratic Party and became a spokesperson of the Presidential Campaign Organisation of Atiku Abubakar, PDP presidential candidate, in 2019.

Doyin Okupe has a wife, Aduralere Okupe, and children. His sons known have made headlines for several reasons.
His son Ditan Okupe supported Muhammadu Buhari while he supported Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 General Election. His son, Bolu Okupe, made his gay sexuality open on social media in 2021.
